    ANALYSIS OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT INTEGRATION AND PATIENT SAFETY

    Çalışmanın amacı hastanede görev yapan sterilizasyon sorumlularının tedarik zinciri entegrasyonu ve hasta güvenliği kültürüne ilişkin algılarının belirlemesi ve aralarındaki ilişkinin analiz edilmesidir. Çalışmada, Gaziantep'te düzenlenen 2. Sterilizasyon Semineri'ne katılan Ege ve Güneydoğu Anadolu bölgeleri sterilizasyon sorumlularının algıları, yapılandırılmış anket tekniği kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Yapısal geçerliliği ölçmek için ölçeklere uygulanan faktör analizi ve güvenilirlik analizleri anlamlıdır. Tedarik zinciri entegrasyonu ile hasta güvenliği alt boyuları arasında yapılan korelasyon analizinde de tedarik zinciri entegrasyonu ile kurulan en güçlü ilişki, takım çalışması ve iletişim arasında gerçekleşmiştir. Takım çalışması, takım içi iletişim, hasta güvenliğinin en önemli boyutu olduğu gibi, tedarik zinciri entegrasyonunu da olumlu yönde etkileyen bir değişken olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. The aim of this study is to analyze the sterilization supervisors' perceptions of the supply chain integration and patient safety culture and the relationship in between. A structured questionnaire was implemented to sterilization supervisors who had attended the 2nd Sterilization Seminar held in Gaziantep. Validity and reliability of the data have been tested and Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the significant relationship. A positive and strong correlation between supply chain integration and patient safety culture has been found. According to the correlation analysis between supply chain integration and sub-dimensions of patient safety culture, the relationship is significant and positive

    Konaklama İşletmelerinde Başarım Değerlemesi ve İş Doyumu Analizi

    Aralıksız hizmet veren, büyük ölçüde insan gücüne dayanan konaklama işletmeciliğinde insan unsuru, hizmetin verimliliğine ve müşteri doyumuna doğrudan etki etmektedir. İnsan kaynakları birimi gün geçtikçe daha da önem kazanan bir yönetim birimi haline gelmektedir. İşgören kayıtlarını tutmaktan öte, işgörenin yetenek ve becerilerini geliştirerek en üst düzeyde verim almak ve işletmeye bağlılıklarını artırmak ve katkılarını en üst düzeye çıkarmak amacıyla yürütülen bir dizi işlevi de yerine getirmektedir. Uzmanlık gerektiren bu işlevler, günümüzde, belirli dönemlerde tekrarlanan ve insan kaynakları yönetiminin kararlarını etkileyen başarım değerlemesi uygulamalarıyla desteklenmektedir. Başarım değerlemesiyle elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda işgörenin yetenek ve becerileri, eğitim ihtiyaçları, terfi olanakları belirlenebilmektedir. İşgörenin işine devamı, işini çekici bulması, işine bağlılığı ve verimliliği için önemli olan diğer bir olgu da iş doyumudur. Yapılan araştırmalar, başarım değerlemesi ile iş doyumu arasında bir ilişkinin varlığını ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışmada, başarım değerlemesi süreci, yöntemleri, iş doyumu, iş doyumunu etkileyen faktörler bazında incelenmiştir. Buradan hareketle, İzmir'de faaliyet gösteren iki beş yıldızlı otelin işgörenlerinin iş doyumları ölçümlenmiş, buna bağlı olarak başarım değerleme uygulamasına bakış açıları saptanmıştır. Daha sonra her iki değişkenin birbirleriyle olan ilişkileri ortaya konulup yönleri belirlenmiştir

    Masculinity, femininity, and angry drivers: Masculinity and femininity as moderators between driver anger and anger expression style among young drivers

    Driver anger and its expression are among the most studied topics in traffic safety literature. However, the function of gender roles, i.e., masculinity and femininity, in driving anger experience and expression has remained mainly unexplored. The present study investigates the association between driving anger and gender roles on the expression of anger among young drivers. Three hundred seventy-nine young drivers filled a questionnaire including the Driving Anger Scale, Bem Sex Roles Inventory, Driving Anger Expression Inventory, and demographic information. Moderated regression analyses showed that masculine gender role and anger provoked by other road users’ discourtesy were positively and femininity negatively related to verbal aggression while driving. Anger related to police presence, slow driving, and masculine gender role were positively related to gesture-based and vehicle-based expression of driver aggression. Hostility and feminine gender role were negatively related to the gesture-based expression of driver aggression, while anger related to witnessing illegal driving and feminine gender role were negatively related to the vehicle-based expression of aggression. The interaction effects between masculinity and hostility, masculinity and slow driving, and femininity and illegal driving were also found on the gesture-based expression of driver aggression. The effects of interaction between masculinity and slow driving and femininity and illegal driving were also found on the vehicle-based expression of driver aggression. Slow driving and femininity had a positive relationship to the adaptive expression of anger in driving. The results suggest that masculinity and femininity moderate the relationship between driving anger and the expression of driving anger among young drivers

    PISA 2009 Uygulamasına Katılan Ülkelerin Okuma Becerileri Alt Test Sonuçlarının Profil Analizi ile Değerlendirilmesi

    The purpose of this research is to determine the characteristics possibly went unnoticed over general average scores in reading skills subtest of students in countries attending the Programme for International Student Assessment, PISA in 2009, and to reveal their strengths and weaknesses within the framework of item categories in question. The sample of this research constitutes of students in 15-years-old group participating in the PISA 2009 application. In the study, performances of countries participating in the PISA 2009 application within the framework of item format, text format and cognitive process level of the text in reading skills subtest have been analyzed using the profile analysis technique and intercountry comparisons are made. Obtained remarkable findings are discussed in accordance with the related literature. Within the scope of the research, it has been concluded that evaluating countries participating in the PISA application as per their average scores results in ruling out important country-specific information at item categories level, and that it is possible to employ profile analysis, as a new approach, with a view to reveal such information.Bu araştırmanın amacı, Uluslararası Öğrenci Değerlendirme Programı (Programme for International Student Assessment, -PISA-) 2009 uygulamasına katılan ülkelerdeki öğrencilerin, okuma becerileri alt testindeki genel ortalama puanları üzerinde gözden kaçması muhtemel olan özelliklerini belirlemek ve ele alınan madde kategorileri çerçevesindeki güçlü ve zayıf yanlarını ortaya koymaktır.  Araştırmanın örneklemini PISA 2009 uygulamasına katılan 15 yaş grubu öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, PISA 2009 uygulamasına katılan ülkelerin okuma becerileri alt testindeki madde formatı, metnin şekli ve metnin zihinsel süreç düzeyi boyutları çerçevesindeki performansları profil analizi tekniği ile incelenerek, ülkeler arası karşılaştırmalar yapılmıştır. Elde edilen dikkat çekici bulgular ilgili alan yazın ile desteklenerek tartışılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında; PISA uygulamalarına katılan ülkelerin ortalama puanlarına göre değerlendirilmesinin, madde kategorileri düzeyinde ülkelere özgü birtakım önemli bilgilerin göz ardı edilmesine neden olduğu ve yeni bir yaklaşım olan profil analizinin bu bilgileri ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla kullanılabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır

    Maritime Students' Assessment of Distance Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic

    The coronavirus diseases-2019 (COVID-19) outbreak emerged in late 2019 and rapidly spread worldwide, resulting in a pandemic. The pandemic has had negative impacts on various aspects of life, particularly health and the economy. Education sector has been severely affected, as well. In Türkiye, as in many countries, face-to-face classes were replaced with distance education as a safety measure against the pandemic. Maritime education places significant emphasis on providing practical, hands-on training to its students. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a shift to distance education was required, including the teaching of applied courses in this field of study. In this regard, revealing the evaluations of maritime students on distance education is an important issue that needs to be studied. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the opinions of maritime faculty students in Türkiye regarding the technical aspects and learning process of the distance education that they received during the pandemic. To this end, the 'Distance Education Evaluation Scale' was administered to students via an online platform, and the resulting data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 25. The results show that male students have a more positive evaluation of distance education than female students. Those who participate in distance education by using mobile phones have a more negative evaluation of distance education, while successful students have a more positive evaluation of distance education. Finally, there was no significant difference according to universities and classes

    Validation of tracheal intubation of wire-reinforced endotracheal tube with ultrasonography

    Objective. Te use of ultrasonography (US) is a new method for verifying the location of the endotracheal tube. Design. Our study was designed as a paired-data and investigator-blind clinical study for evaluating the efectiveness of US for verifcation of wire-reinforced endotracheal tube (WR-ETT) placement compared with capnography. Setting. Tis study was conducted on 56 patients scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia. Patients. Fify patients completed the study as 6 were excluded for various reasons. Intervention. Two diferent investigators performed the ultrasonography and intubation independently from one another. While investigator 1 attempted to verify the location of the WR-ETT with a portable ultrasonography with sagittal trans-tracheal view, investigator 2 intubated the patient and verifed the location of the ETT using capnography. Measurements. Time for verifying the location of the ETT using both US and capnography was recorded. Main Results. When the ultrasonography method was compared with capnography for verifcation of the WR-ETT placement, the results showed 95.75% sensitivity and 100% specifcity. Te average verifcation times for endotracheal intubation were 12.78 ± 7.46 s. and 24.44 ± 1.45 s. with US and capnography, respectively (p=0.003). Conclusion. Our results suggest that ultrasound identifcation of a WR-ETT within the trachea is a rapid and accurate method for confrmation of tracheal placement. Larger studies are needed before widespread use of this technique

    Exploring the Interaction Between Internal Customer Satisfaction and Talent Waste: A Lean Management Perspective1

    Principles of lean management have become more popular in recent years and the implementation area of Lean, spread from manufacturing environment to service sectors due to its wide applicability. Human centric structure of service sector reveals the need of lean principles which focuses on improvements related to employees. In lean thinking, elimination of wastes is one of the priority and it is essential to eliminate them for organizational enhancements. Wastes in lean were firstly defined under seven categories as overproduction, over-processing, waiting, motion, inventory, defect, transportation for manufacturing environment. However, these wastes were not found adequate, since one of the most important factor in organizations, human, was ignored. Therefore, the 8th waste of lean was presented as “talent” in order to include the human factor and it refers to underutilization of people’s talent, knowledge, skills and abilities. As eliminating talent waste has been perceived as an important concept, it should be a significant driver of increasing internal customer satisfaction. This study aims to explore the relation between talent waste and internal customer satisfaction while considering level of top management commitment. Within this context a survey was conducted with the participation of whitecollar internal customers to understand their perception of talent waste related to their jobs. At the end of the study, it is found that talent waste partially mediates the relationship between top management commitment and internal customer satisfaction
